The occupational athlete
I use the term ‘occupational athlete’ for people whose work places demands on their bodies. That includes desk workers as well as people working in trades.
- Desk work
- Desk-bound office or administration jobs, such as accounting, customer service, secretarial duties, IT support or architecture.
- Trades
- Skilled trades such as electricians, plumbers and mechanics.
What a session involves
- Assessment of posture and muscle balance
- Assessment of spinal and core stability during movements such as lifting
- Hands-on techniques, including gentle joint mobilisations and adjustments
- Active rehabilitation exercises, following the progression from stabilisation to strength
